The characteristics and application scenarios of color steel sandwich panels

Color steel Phenolic sandwich board

1、 Introduction to Color Steel Sandwich Panel
Color steel sandwich panel is an ultra light building panel made of color coated steel plate as the surface material and phenolic aldehyde as the core material, which is heated and compressed by heat curing adhesive in a continuous molding machine. It has the characteristics of light self weight (1/20-1/30 of the weight of concrete roof), thermal insulation (with a thermal conductivity coefficient of 0.022W/mk), fast construction speed (no wet operation, no secondary decoration, construction period can be shortened by more than 40%), bright color (no surface decoration required, color galvanized steel plate anti-corrosion layer retention period of 15-30 years), and is a new type of enclosure structure material that integrates load-bearing, insulation, waterproofing, and decoration.

2、 The characteristics of color steel sandwich panels:
Light: It can fully reduce the structural load and lower the structural cost. Quick installation: The composite board has the characteristics of light weight, splicing installation, and can be cut freely, which determines its easy installation, greatly improving efficiency, and saving time.
Fire prevention: The surface material and insulation material of the colored composite sandwich panel are non combustible materials, which can fully meet the requirements of fire prevention regulations.
Durability: Various studies have shown that, and it has been widely used for over 40 years abroad, it has been confirmed that color steel plates treated with special coatings have a shelf life of 10-15 years. Afterwards, anti-corrosion coatings are sprayed every 10 years, and the lifespan of the plates can reach over 35 years.
Aesthetics: The clear lines of the profiled steel plate come in dozens of colors, which can match the needs of any style of architecture and achieve satisfactory results.
Insulation: The commonly used insulation materials for this composite board include phenolic aldehyde, rock wool, glass fiber cotton, polystyrene, polyurethane, etc., with low thermal conductivity and good insulation effect.
High strength: Using high-strength as the substrate, combined with the most advanced design and rolling forming, it has excellent structural characteristics.

3、 The application of sandwich panels
Sandwich panels with different core materials and plate types can be suitable for different building needs, including industrial plants, public buildings, composite buildings, purification engineering, and other building fields.
(1) Industrial factories and warehouses: Sandwich panels are mainly used for the roofs and exterior walls of industrial factories and warehouses. In the past, industrial factory roofs were mostly made of prefabricated concrete slabs or asbestos sheets. With the rapid promotion of light steel structures, sandwich panels have also replaced the above two materials with their multiple significant advantages. While providing better insulation effects, sandwich panels combined with mature and developed light steel structures can truly reflect a series of advantages of light steel systems, such as lightweight, fast and efficient, and flexible layout. Therefore, they have become the preferred solution in current single-story factory buildings. For multi story industrial buildings, in addition to using sandwich panels for the roof, sandwich panels can also be flexibly arranged for the exterior walls, achieving the goal of beautifying the building’s appearance through the variable colors and shapes of color coated panels. For industrial buildings that require constant temperature and humidity, using sandwich panels with better thermal performance than brick walls as enclosure materials can greatly save operating costs after construction.

(2) Public buildings: Sandwich panels can mainly be used in the roofs and exterior walls of public buildings with large space needs, such as mechanisms, waiting halls or waiting halls at stations, sports venues, cinemas and auditoriums, exhibition halls and convention centers, museums, and so on. Due to the higher requirements of providing larger space, indoor air conditioning, and fire prevention compared to industrial buildings, public buildings currently mostly use grid structures.
English name: spatial grid structure; Space truss structure.
Definition: A spatial structure consisting of multiple members connected through nodes in a certain grid form to form a large-span coverage.
Applied disciplines: Water Conservancy Science and Technology (Level 1 discipline); Engineering mechanics, engineering structures, and building materials (second level disciplines); Engineering structure (water conservancy) (third level discipline) or the roof truss structure form of pipe truss (referring to a grid structure composed of circular members connected to each other at the ends).
Nowadays, it has a wide range of applications and is economically practical. It has been used in large public buildings such as exhibition centers, sports venues, or others. Therefore, higher requirements have been put forward for the materials of roof panels in terms of lightweight, insulation and heat insulation, fire safety, waterproofing, sound insulation, durability, etc.

(3) Composite houses: Composite houses built with sandwich panels have been widely used, with a series of advantages such as light overall weight, flexible combination, convenient and fast construction, no need for secondary decoration, and easy disassembly and relocation. The use of sandwich panels to build multi story houses is quite widespread. Due to the limited urban land, many units and individuals hope to add one story to the roof without imposing a significant load on the original building. This not only expands the usage area but also solves the insulation and waterproofing problems of the original roof with minimal investment. The various advantages of sandwich panel composite houses fully meet the needs of users. The characteristic of sandwich panel composite houses that can be relocated multiple times also makes them widely used in temporary buildings. In addition, a large number of sandwich panels are also used inside industrial plants as composite houses for various purposes.

(4) Purification engineering: With the continuous progress of society, industries such as electronics and medicine are developing rapidly. In the manufacturing process of products in these industries, it is necessary to provide a production environment with high cleanliness. Color coated sandwich panels are widely used as internal wall and ceiling materials in production and working environments with cleanliness requirements due to their surface color coated panels being less prone to dust adhesion, easy to clean, and having fewer joints. The application scope includes various industries such as electronic and computer product manufacturing, medical supplies and drug production, aerospace, precision instrument manufacturing, food production, medical operating rooms, etc. Although some factories do not require high cleanliness requirements, due to the flexible disassembly and assembly of sandwich panels, they are also widely used as partition walls inside the factories.
